“Be It unto Me according to Thy Word” (January 7-13)

Matthew 1; Luke 1

My lesson starts with Time for Sharing, where learners review the study scriptures and share their favourite verse or doctrine. The rest of the lesson focuses on Luke 1:37; “With God nothing shall be impossible” and we finish the Time for Sharing by discussing the JST change to this verse.
After discussing the Godhead (with associated scriptures if needed) an activity helps to focus learners on the fact that the Godhead work together for our good. The Doctrine of “With God nothing shall be impossible” is taught by reading Luke 1:26-38, watching three videos with a class discussion inbetween each video. The lesson concludes with a quote from Elder Neal A Maxwell followed by Learning at Home slides for the next two weeks.

Explain that we are often drawn to righteous people because they follow the Saviour and testify of him. This week’s lesson discusses several people whose righteous examples can help us draw closer to him.

Matthew 1:20 – Mathew mentions Joseph’s dreams five times. Tradition holds that a good dream was regarded by Jewish men as a sign of God’s favour. According to tradition, it would have been unwise to unduly postpone obedience to an inspired dream. To thwart or put off the Lord’s favour was to wreak his wrath.
